No Child Left Behind...Except in Fitness, Art or Music

Politics aside...the "No Child Left Behind" bill was organized to boost American children's test scores in reading and mathematics. (A good idea right?) Leave it to our government to screw up a good thing! In order to achieve better scores, we eliminated art, music and physical education. Nice going.

Today, the number of 12 year old American kids with diabetes, obesity, depression has quadrupled in a very short period of time. Instead of helping our children become more rounded...we just got rounded.

I believe that children need time to be kids. P.E., art and music are part of that. Here is a suggestion to help change this situation.

If you would like to help with this final "push towards the finish line", you have FOUR CHOICES:
1. FAX or E-MAIL directly to CHAIRMAN MILLER or SENATOR KENNEDY (Contact Info below). You may send your own message OR copy and paste the following: On behalf of the nation's children, I respectfully ask that Physical Education be included in the reauthorization of the NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND ACT as an optional multiple measure. Thank you, (your name/address)."
2. CALL either office, and leave the same message via voicemail or receptionist.
3 POSTAL MAIL
4. CONTACT YOUR STATE SENATOR. Since this campaign has now moved in to the SENATE, you may e-mail your SENATOR as to how you feel about Physical Education. Just copy and paste the message above and click on the SENATE LINK at the bottom of this page.
