My good friend Fernando is a "hibernating" cyclist. Yesterday at the end of the work day he asked me if we could put a training program together. He's about 5'10" and 260 right now. He has been traveling for work, kids (his daughter has a real shot at the Olympics in 4-8 years), and well...work. Fernando, like any good cyclist, has 8 bikes...except they are at his house in New Zealand. Fernando is a big time project manager like me and managed McDonald's Pacific rim projects for years based in Christchurch, NZ. So somehow, he needs to get his bikes here.
So we sat down, made a pact...and built out a training plan culminating in his first triathlon = the Schaumburg Sprint Triathlon in July. (Gotta have a goal.) I wrote his goal for that race. "Finish with a smile on your face" No time goal, no heart rate goal...just swim 500 meters in a pool, bike 15 miles and run 3.1 miles and be smiling at the end.
Between Fernando and I planning the hell out of everything, fat has no chance.
